It is your responsibility, as a consumer, to make sure your lash technician is licensed and certified with the proper credentials for the state in which they are providing this service. It is also recommended to make sure that the lash technician you are trusting your eyes with is properly trianed and certified in the art of eyelash extension application with a reputable eyelash extension company. Eyelash extensions are part of a non-regulated industry; Every State has its own regulations, if any, in regard to who can and can not apply eyelash extensions, legally.
Cleanliness checklist:
a. Is the working area clean?
b. Are disposable items used only for one client?
c. How are reusable tools disinfected or sterilized?
d. Are linens laundered between each and every client?
e. Are there any head/neck pillow coverings?
f. Is the Technician presentable? Hands washed?
Ask to see actual before and after photos of real clients, not stock images taken from the web.
A professional lash technician will take pride in their own work, and they should always have on hand images of their artistry. It is customary to sign a consent form before your initial service is performed, and the lash technician should go over this form with you to explain the proceedure and to answer any questions you may have.
The lash technician should go over different extension options with you before your initial application...Do you want them long? What is your definition of long? Is thickness and length your desired outcome? Each clients' eyes are different, there are no two sets of eyes alike, therefore, it is impossible to the 'same" extensions as your best friend or a picture in a magazine. Each eyelash application is unique, and this should be reflected in the the quality of the technicians work.
There are many different lengths, diameters, shapes, and colors of eyelash extensions. Individual eyelash extensions are applied to each individual natural eyelash. As each natural eyelash sheds (normal shed cycle is 60 days), a new eyelash grows in. The new baby lashes of course will not have long extensions put on them, this is too much weight for a natural eyelash, baby lashes receive the smaller extensions. If the technician says he/she will be applying flares or clusters to make your lashes appear thicker and fuller in a quicker time frame, yet calls them extensions, walk away, these are not lash extensions and these will damage your natural lashes.
Make sure the lash technician is using pharmaceutical adhesive lash extension glue. Many adhesives come from over seas and are equivalent to nail glue or automobile manufacturing glue. You also want to make sure the adhesive is a formaldehyde free formula.
Be selective on who you choose to apply eyelash extensions to your eyes. Look for a clean and sanitary environment and someone who takes pride in their appearance and their clients' appearance, always offering a 100% quality each and every time. If someone is booked solid months in advance and you can not get in with them...Well, there probably is a reason for that :)
Above all, if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
